The fame of the Pinacoteca di Brera is due to large canvases by Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia Romagna schools. Stand out in particular the famous masterpieces by Piero della Francesca, Giovanni Bellini, Mantegna, Raphael, Tintoretto and Caravaggio.
The collection of 19th Century paintings is limited but includes important works of Francesco Hayez, Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega, Giovanni Segantini, Giuseppe Pellizza from Volpedo and Medardo Rosso.
The collection of modern art includes splendid works which come largely from the collection Jesi, allowing an evocative journey through Italian art of the first'900. Amedeo Modigliani, Umberto Boccioni, Carlo Carrà, Gino Severini, Giorgio Morandi, Mario Sironi and Philip de Pisis stand out with some of their greatest masterpieces.
The area surrounding the Pinacoteca di Brera with the magnificent church of San Marco is one of the oldest areas of town and is today one of the most distinctive and fascinating imbued with history, art, culture. There are many art galleries and historic bar with outdoor tables, once "literary cafe" frequented by artists and students of the Academy. And in the evening you can also find numerous teller for a few euros that you read your hand.
Itinerary
- 10:30 - Starting from our travel agency a pleasant stroll through the district of Brera with a short visit to the church of San Marco will lead us to the Pinacoteca.
- 11:00 - guided tour of the various halls and most important works.
- 13:00 - After the visit, we suggest you to stop for lunch (not included) in one of several bars and restaurant of the district.
