Feed your curiosity for Amsterdam's culinary history on this tour with a twist. By walking the streets of Amsterdam, uncover the city's secrets while snacking on traditional foods. Then use your free time in the afternoon to rest or discover more of Amsterdam at your own pace before being treated to dinner cooked by aspiring local student chefs.
The tour will start with you joining your friendly guide in one of the oldest squares in Amsterdam. You will get to find out why the locals love snacking on hot, salty Belgian fries by trying some yourself then sample another local fave – herring.
You will continue your walk through the city, passing Amsterdam's iconic moats and canals, before venturing into a cheese shop packed with a quality selection of rich cheese. You will get to enjoy a quick taste-testing session before walking over to the VOC spice house, a remnant of the East Indies spice trade that shaped this area centuries ago.
Afterwards, you will head to a distillery that dates back to the 17th century where you can take the opportunity to sip spirits and other traditional drinks.
You will then be given enough free time to explore Amsterdam on your own. Why not relax in a cafe, admire art at a gallery, explore a museum or hang out in a bar?
PART 2 Home Cooked Amsterdam (2.5 to 3 hours)
After going solo, rejoin the group in the evening to be treated to the culinary flair of emerging chefs. Enjoy a dinner prepared by young student chefs, who will prepare a variety of local dishes in this unique, aquatic setting.
You will get to interact with the chefs, give feedback on the experience and help shape the futures of aspiring youth! Who knows? You could be in the presence of the next Heston Blumenthal!
This gastronomic journey finishes at the end of the dinner, when you can return to your accommodation with a full stomach.
